BA(Hons) Fashion Photography Level 1 students recently took part in a project entitled ‘Zine Wars’. Led by Clive Crook (founding art director of Elle Magazine), the project split the students into 2 groups – Analogue and Digital. The Analogue group’s brief was to construct their Zine by putting their prints straight into actual size tabloid layouts. Any manipulation had to be done via photocopier, scissors, glue and bare hands! Only right at the end of the process were the layouts re-photographed and dropped into an Indesign template.
By contrast, the Digital group had access to the fully equipped Arwenack Mac suites. Their brief was to produce a Zine by Digital means only. They were allowed to input their photo files and then manipulte them utilising photoshop, illustrator and Indesign.
On top of all this, the two groups only had 24 hours to produce their Zine and send it off to print! Check below for photos of the finished zines and madness from the day:
